JLR Design Director Hands In Shock Resignation

Big developments at JLR as design boss Massimo Frascella has handed in his resignation, signalling his intention to leave the company.

Frachella leaves after more than a decade of service with JLR, during which time he worked alongside Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern and was responsible for the designs of some of the world’s most iconic vehicles including the Discovery, Defender and Range Rover models.

Confirming the news to Auto&Design, Frascella said emphatically: “A fascinating new adventure will soon begin”.

This would suggest he’ll be taking on another high-profile role soon, although at this stage, it’s unsure where Frascella will move to next. However, he’ll be a big miss for JLR as he takes decades of experience with him, following his previous employment with the likes of Ford, Kia, in addition to this time with the British manufacturer.

Reacting to the bombshell news, McGovern said: “Massimo Frascella, JLR Design Director, has decided to leave JLR to pursue new opportunities.

‘We would like to thank Massimo for his significant creative contribution to JLR and we wish him every success in the future.’

It’ll be interesting to see how this affects JLR moving forward. When Frascella first came in, he revolutionised the design of the Range Rover, introducing the fourth-generation model that signalled a change in direction.

Whether or not his replacement chooses to stay on the same path remains to be seen. If not, we may see a fully revamped vehicle at the next launch, which would certainly prove exciting.

For those who can’t afford to purchase the latest model each year, we offer a range of repair services for many JLR models. These range from servicing to full engine rebuilds so if your vehicle is in need of some TLC then speak to us today and we’ll be happy to help.
