King Charles’ Old Land Rover Sells For £12k!

Someone has become the lucky owner of a 2007 Land Rover that used to belong to none other than King Charles III.

The Discovery 3 model was sold at an online auction collectingcars.com earlier this week for £12,050 by a private seller from Ilminister in Somerset.

In addition to the 2.7-litre vehicle with TDV6 engine, four-wheel drive, and six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with two-speed transfer box, the new owner received a letter addressed to Mr Tim Williams, the head chauffeur of the then-Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

It came from George Hassall, director of royal and diplomatic affairs, and was dated January 18th 2007, confirming delivery of the vehicle to King Charles’ residence Highgrove Grove earlier that month.

The Land Rover, which is finished in Tonga Green and has Ebony leather-trimmed interior and matching carpets, has 117,816 miles on the odometer.

While there were usual signs of ageing, including blemishes, scratches and a tear in the driver’s seat, the auction house noted the “cabin presents well overall”. This could be following work from Land Rover engine rebuild specialists

It also has typical features of a Discovery 3 of that era, including air suspension, air conditioning, adjustable heated front seats, heated rear seats, cruise control, childproof rear door locks, electric sunroof, front and rear Park Distance Control, satellite navigation, and a twin-tone horn.

While the Discovery 3 sold for a reasonable amount, the new owner could find its value increases after the Coronation on Saturday May 6th when King Charles III will be officially crowned monarch.
