Land Rovers Targeted By Car Thieves

Land Rover owners have been warned to be extra careful with their vehicles, as their cars are being targeted by opportunistic thieves.

Since the beginning of 2023, 28 Land Rovers have been stolen around Glasgow, Police Scotland has revealed.

Superintendent Natalie Carr said: “I would urge car owners to be extra vigilant and protect themselves from criminals who use technological advances to steal cars.”

It isn’t just car owners in Glasgow that should take extra precautions, however, as a number of Land Rovers have been taken in St Helens, with many being stolen without keys and during the daytime.

The Land Rover Discovery and Land Rover Evoque / Sport were particularly targeted, with the incidents occurring in Eccleston, Eccleston Park and Newton-le-Willows.

Police advised drivers to use steering wheel locks and keep their keys in sealed metal containers.

Additionally, a number of Land Rovers were taken in Worksop in December. Two men were arrested who were thought to be involved in the crimes and several stolen vehicles were recovered and returned.

Inspector Hayley Crawford, district commander for Bassetlaw, recognised the impact having a vehicle taken has on people’s businesses and personal lives.

She added: “I hope this shows residents in our rural communities and the wider Bassetlaw area that we are listening to their concerns and acting on any reports we receive.”

Thieves could be taking Land Rovers due to their expense, with new models starting from £34,480 for a Discovery Sport. However, the most expensive model is the new Range Rover, which starts from £99,375.

You don’t need a brand new Land Rover to enjoy its benefits though. Opting for a Range Rover engine rebuild can save you lots of money, while also making your vehicle less of a target to potential thieves compared with newer models.
