Land Rovers The Most Profitable Vehicles Once Again

Land Rover models proved to be the most profitable vehicles for used car dealers for the third year in a row, data from Dealer Auction has revealed.

The trade-to-trade auction site released its annual Retail Margin Monitor report, and coming out on top was the Range Rover Evoque, which earned dealers an average of £3,325 over the year. During November, the average profit reached a tasty £5,100.

The Evoque stole top spot from last year’s winner – the Land Rover Discovery 4 – which earned dealers even more in 2022, with an average profit of £4,340.

The auctioneer calculates the most profitable makes and models by keeping tabs on the cars sold on its website. It compares the sale price on its own platform with the retail price on Auto Trader, to work out the profit generated.

Coming in at second place was the Volvo XC60 with an average profit of £2,700, while the Mercedes E-Class notched third with £2,650.

Reacting to the results, director of Dealer Auction, Kieran TeeBoon, said: “The top-selling profit-makers were consistent in 2023, with Land Rover continuing to reign supreme and other premium models regularly appearing in the top ten.

“Despite the economic and political headwinds in 2023, it’s clear that there are significant opportunities for stock-savvy dealers to bolster their profit margins and start 2024 on a high. The new data adds valuable extra context for dealers, too – for example, the tenth-place BMW 1 Series was the quickest seller of the year.”
