Unipart To Run Leicestershire JLR Parts Distribution Centre

Unipart Logistics has been awarded the contract to run a new global parts distribution centre being built for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

According to a press release, the logistics firm has secured a five-year deal to operate the massive new facility being built at Appleby Magna in West Leicestershire. The 3 million-square-foot complex is being constructed by IM Properties next to Junction 11 of the M42, and it is scheduled to open in 2022.

The facility will be JLR’s global hub for sending spare parts to customers in the UK and 80 countries around the world. The famous carmaker is wanting to centralise the work that is currently done at 19 different warehouses located around the Midlands.

The development is set to create 1,200 jobs from day one of construction and is set to create a further 3,000 jobs by 2030.

Winvic Construction is building the parts distribution centre which will include six buildings, ranging from 30,000 sq ft to just over one million sq ft.

Unipart will provide aftermarket parts logistics for both the Jaguar and Land Rover luxury automotive brands. As part of the contract, it will oversee distribution, parts packing and branded goods operations, and carry out customer support functions, supporting Jaguar Land Rover’s growth ambitions.

John Neill, Unipart Group chairman and chief executive, said: “Jaguar Land Rover is a global player with world-class products.

“With this new contract, we will support the evolution of Jaguar Land Rover aftermarket logistics with a proposition that reflects our joint commitment to digital innovation, environmental sustainability and of course, industry-leading customer service.”

He added that Unipart is committed to the partnership and that the firm looks forward to ‘creating this future together’.
